Canada and the United States met in the gold medal game of the IIHF U18 World Championship in Espoo, Finland, on May 4, 11 years after their last encounter in the final.

In the preliminary round, Canada finished second in Group A with a record of 3-1, while the United States won Group B with a perfect 4-0 record.

In the semifinals, Canada defeated Sweden 4-2, and the United States beat Finland 6-1.

The gold medal game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams trading goals throughout. Canada took an early 2-0 lead, but the United States fought back to tie the game in the second period.

Canada regained the lead in the third period, but the United States tied the game again with just over two minutes remaining.

With just under a minute to go, Canada's Connor Bedard scored the game-winning goal to give Canada the 6-4 victory.
