Over 150 World Leaders to Attend UN Summit on Sustainable Development
Leaders Will Discuss Ambitious Agenda to Protect the Planet
Sustainable Development Goals to be Top of Agenda
United Nations Headquarters, New York – Over 150 world leaders will gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for the UN Summit on Sustainable Development on September 25-27. The summit will focus on an ambitious agenda to protect the planet and promote sustainable development.
The summit will be the largest gathering of world leaders since the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. It will provide a unique opportunity for leaders to discuss and agree on concrete actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a set of 17 goals adopted by all UN member states in 2015, which aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
The summit will be co-chaired by President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson and President of the UN Economic and Social Council Frederick Shava. A number of high-level events will be held during the summit, including a Leaders' Dialogue on Climate Change and a high-level event on financing for sustainable development.
The summit is expected to produce a political declaration that will reaffirm the commitment of world leaders to the SDGs and outline specific actions that will be taken to achieve them. The declaration is also expected to call for increased international cooperation and financing for sustainable development.
The UN Summit on Sustainable Development is a critical opportunity for world leaders to take bold action on climate change and other pressing global challenges. The summit is expected to produce a roadmap for sustainable development that will help to create a more just and equitable world for all.
